Dilip Ghosh slams ‘political iftar attendees,’ warns Muslims against opportunists

BJP leader Dilip Ghosh criticized individuals attending Iftar parties in Muslim attire without observing Ramadan fasts. Speaking at a "Chai Pe Charcha" event at the Krishnanagar Sadar Hospital crossroads, Ghosh stated, “Iftar is never observed without fasting. It is a matter of shame for Islam.” He claimed that some people, for political reasons, wear religious symbols such as caps and tilaks at different times and even dress their daughters in Islamic attire to attend these gatherings. He urged Muslims to be cautious of those who change their appearance to blend in at religious events.

The event, attended by several BJP workers, included discussions on political issues in West Bengal. Ghosh accused "Islamic agents" of inviting a specific woman to such gatherings but did not provide further details. His remarks were directed at individuals he claimed were exploiting religious occasions for personal or political gains. The "Chai Pe Charcha" program, a political outreach initiative, was organized at a public location where party supporters and local residents were present.

When asked about former Trinamool Congress leader Humayun Kabir’s support, Ghosh stated, “I don’t care who supports me and in what manner. I do politics on my own terms and with my workers.” He added that he had a friendly relationship with Kabir in the past and continued to do so, but it did not influence his political approach. The comments were made in response to questions about political alignments in the region, particularly regarding shifting loyalties among leaders ahead of elections.
